Everything you need to know about 100% Offline Resilience
How do offline card payments work?
Stripe Terminal SDK utilizes a secure local queue. When offline, it creates a 'Deferred PaymentIntent' that is processed automatically once the device restores its internet connection.
Is there a risk of card decline?
Yes. Because the card isn't authorized in real-time, there is a risk that a transaction could be declined later (e.g., due to insufficient funds) after the guest has left. We recommend using mobile devices with Tap-to-Pay for the most resilient processing.
Do I need special hardware?
No. Our offline resilience works on standard Android and iOS devices. Using mobile phones for processing is a great 'safety net' as they can often toggle to cellular data if Wi-Fi fails.
Will the KDS work offline?
Currently, our '100% Resilience' focus is on POS and Payments. KDS synchronization requires a local area network (LAN) or internet to communicate between devices.
